Gingerbread Cupcakes with Caramel Sauce Topping

1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups molasses
2 cups warm water mixed with 2 tsp baking soda

4 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening (melt and add at the last)

Mix the sugar, eggs, molasses, and water and then add to the dry ingredients.  Melt the shortening and add at the last.  Mix.

Pour into cupcake liners and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Caramel Sauce Topping


 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
 1 1/2 cup butter
 6 tsp milk

(I don't have any more details.  ??  My best guess would be to melt together in a sauce pan.)
Pour over cupcake and serve with whipped cream.  MM-MM!!
